How do I change my address?

Members with e-Branch access can change their address and contact information with the e-Branch account access program on our website. You can visit any one of our branches during regular business hours and make the appropriate changes in person.

Why is there a difference in my account balance and my available balance?

The balance is the total amount of funds in the account. However, sometimes not all of those funds are available due to holds or minimum requirements. This is why your available amount and balance amount may differ.

Why can’t I view my account in e-Branch?

You will need to know your account number and password to access your account. If your password needs to be reset please contact us.

You may experience difficulty viewing your account via e-Branch if your internet browser is not the most current version or if the computer you are using has specific firewalls for certain internet traffic, this tends to be common at government installations.

How do I sign up for E-Statements?

You can sign up for E-Statements online after logging into your account. Select "Online Services" at the top menu and then click on "E-Statements."

Can I make VISA payments online?

Yes, you can pay your visa just like any other loan payment using e-Branch. Simply transfer money from your checking or savings account directly to your Visa credit card account. Balances are updated immediately after the transfer is complete.

A transaction that is not mine cleared my account. What do I do?

There are different reasons why this may have occurred. If there is a transaction on your account that is not yours call a Northern Star representative immediately at 757-487-3474 and press 0 to speak with the operator or use the Contact us form.

Is my VIP Saver account the same as a Prime Share account?

No, VIP Saver is not the same as your prime share. VIP Saver accounts are meant to be more like club accounts. With a VIP Saver account funds cannot be withdrawn from ATMs nor will funds automatically be transferred to your checking account if you have non-sufficient funds. However, you can make withdrawals from the VIP Saver account at a Northern Star Credit Union location as well as you can make e-branch and mobile transfers to and from the VIP Saver account.

What is the number I can call regarding a lost/stolen VISA Check Card or Credit Card?

During normal operating hours, please call our main number 757-487-3474 and listen for the correct prompt on the system

How do I avoid becoming a victim of identity theft scams, such as Phishing?

There are a number of ways you can become a victim of identity theft. Here are a few ways to keep your information and money safe:

  1. Never give your financial information to anyone over the phone or email unless you made the initial contact and know they are a reputable business.
  2. Never respond to emails asking you to go to websites and input your information. If in doubt, call the institution to see if they sent it.
  3. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
  4. When shopping online, make purchases only at reputable websites.
  5. When using a debit card, signature-based transactions are always safer than PIN based transactions.

What do I do if I believe I have become a victim of identity theft?

The first thing you should do is write down all the pertinent information while it is still fresh in your memory. Write down names, telephone numbers, and any other details while they are fresh in your mind.

Next, contact your financial institution and notify them of the situation. The financial institution may suggest you close your compromised checking account and open you a new account. Although, it may be a pain to transfer your direct deposit and automatic payments to a new account, it is much safer than taking the chance your money will be stolen out of your account.

Finally, review all transactions in the compromised account since the incident. Report any transactions you did not make to your institution.

Why should I notify Northern Star Credit Union of my travel plans?

If travel plans take you out of your home state or the country, your VISA check card or credit card may not be able to make transactions. Our cards are blocked from other states and countries for your protection. This allows us to prevent fraud on your card from other countries. If you notify us of your travel plans we can unblock your card for that specific period of time.
