History of the Credit Union
We have proudly served this community for over 90 years. Some major milestones along our journey are as follows:
1928: The Navy Yard Credit Union founded by 32 employees from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard
1951: We moved our Annual Meeting because certain members were not allowed in the restaurant based on the color of their skin.
1952: We hired our first employee - Mrs. Marion Brown
1969: The first minority was elected to our Board of Directors - Mr. JT Parker
1986: GE Credit Union merged with us
2001: Roger E. Early named CEO
2002: We changed our name to Northern Star Credit Union
2013: Portsmouth Police Department CU merged with us
2014: Belt Line Employees Credit Union merged with us
